Thyroid Centre

Complete thyroid care in one place — high-resolution ultrasound, fine-needle aspiration (FNA), hormone work-up and laser treatment of nodules. We are the first institution in Croatia to offer laser thermal ablation — without surgery, without lifelong replacement therapy.

Thyroid ultrasound and laser ablation of nodules

What are thyroid nodules?

The thyroid is a critical gland in the neck that regulates metabolism. Nodules are growths that most often develop without symptoms — they are mostly benign, but if they grow they can press on the windpipe or oesophagus, cause swallowing problems or voice changes.

Traditionally, the only option was surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid — which results in taking hormone therapy for life. Laser thermal ablation offers a different path.

Our services

What we do.

Complete thyroid care — from diagnostics to minimally invasive treatment.

Ultrasound diagnostics

High-resolution thyroid ultrasound to detect and monitor nodules, changes in the gland's structure and to assess the neck lymph nodes.

Fine-needle aspiration

An ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy (FNA) for a precise cytological analysis of the nodule — the result immediately clarifies whether it is a benign or suspicious change.

Laser treatment of nodules

Laser thermal ablation of benign thyroid nodules — the first method of its kind in Croatia. Without surgery, without lifelong hormone replacement therapy.

More about the procedure →

Hyper/hypothyroidism work-up

Work-up of an overactive or underactive thyroid — blood tests (TSH, fT3, fT4, antibodies), interpretation of the findings and a treatment recommendation in collaboration with an endocrinologist.

Follow-up examinations

Periodic ultrasound monitoring after a diagnosis or procedure — timely detection of changes and adjustment of therapy.

Our strength

Save your thyroid.

Laser ablation precisely destroys the nodule tissue, leaving the rest of the thyroid functional. No lifelong hormone replacement therapy. The procedure is outpatient, performed under local anaesthesia, and takes 30–60 minutes.

Find out what the procedure looks like step by step, how it compares with conventional surgery, and the results and patient experiences.

Diagnostics

Thyroid examination and ultrasound.

Everything begins with precise diagnostics: a high-resolution ultrasound with the option of simultaneous fine-needle aspiration (FNA) — the result immediately after the examination.

Frequently asked questions

The most common thyroid questions.

How are thyroid nodules detected?

Nodules most often develop without symptoms, so they are detected with a high-resolution thyroid ultrasound — often incidentally, during a neck examination. Ultrasound shows the size, structure and characteristics of the nodule and is the basis of every further treatment decision.

What is fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and does it hurt?

FNA is an ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy that takes a sample of cells from the nodule for cytological analysis. It is performed at the same time as the ultrasound, takes a short time and is generally well tolerated, and the result clarifies whether the change is benign or suspicious.

Can a thyroid nodule be treated without surgery?

Yes. Benign nodules can be treated with laser thermal ablation — a thin probe that precisely destroys the nodule tissue, without an incision and with the gland's function preserved. We are the first institution in Croatia to offer this method.

Do I need a referral for a thyroid examination?

No. As a private polyclinic we see patients without a referral and without long waiting lists — simply book by phone or e-mail.

Who leads the examination

Dr. Zoran Kranjčec — thyroid care in Zadar

ENT specialist · subspecialist in head and neck plastic surgery · founder of Poliklinika Kranjčec

The diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases are part of head and neck otorhinolaryngology. Dr. Kranjčec leads the work-up from high-resolution ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) to minimally invasive laser thermal ablation of benign nodules.

The emphasis is on preserving the gland's function and avoiding unnecessary surgery — with accurate diagnostics and an approach tailored to each patient.
