What does the examination show?
Ultrasound uses sound waves to image breast tissue, without ionising radiation. It can help assess a lump or clarify another finding. The doctor decides which examinations are appropriate; ultrasound does not replace mammography when it is indicated.
Preparing for breast ultrasound
Usually no special preparation is needed. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to remove from the upper body. A probe and gel are placed on the skin during imaging.
Bring previous reports and available images, including ultrasound or mammography, and any documentation of earlier breast procedures. At booking, explain whether this is your first assessment or a follow-up and mention any instructions already given by your doctor.
Questions to ask at your visit
Tell the doctor what brought you to the clinic and when you noticed a change. Discuss the findings, whether earlier images can be compared, and the next steps. Before leaving, check how you will receive the report and how any recommended follow-up should be arranged.

Fees and appointment confirmation
Ask our staff for the current breast ultrasound fee and whether the appointment also includes a clinical consultation. If additional diagnostics are discussed, confirm their separate fees before arranging them. This page does not quote a fee for an unspecified package.
