How do I prepare for a heart ultrasound?
No special preparation is needed. Come comfortably dressed and avoid a heavy meal just before the examination. Take your medication as usual, unless your doctor has told you otherwise.
What is a Holter ECG and how does it work?
A Holter ECG is a 24-hour continuous recording of the heart rhythm using small electrodes attached to the chest and a portable device. You wear it during your everyday activities, and the device records any rhythm disturbances that a standard ECG might miss.
When are heart palpitations a cause for concern?
Palpitations are especially concerning if accompanied by dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath or loss of consciousness. In those cases, seek medical help urgently. Palpitations without accompanying symptoms are usually benign, but they are still worth assessing.
Is a heart ultrasound painful?
No, a heart ultrasound (echocardiography) is completely painless and non-invasive. The examination takes 20–30 minutes, and you receive the results immediately.
