How long does eyelid surgery take and what anaesthesia is used?
Blepharoplasty usually takes between 1 and 3 hours, depending on whether the upper, lower or all eyelids are operated on. It is most often performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, and the patient goes home the same day.
Will scars be visible after blepharoplasty?
The incisions are placed in the natural folds of the eyelids, so after healing the scars are practically invisible. For the lower eyelids, the incision can even be on the inner side of the lid, with no external scar at all.
When are the results of eyelid surgery visible?
Swelling and bruising subside over two to three weeks, when the appearance is already considerably fresher. The full final result is visible after a few months.
Are the upper and lower eyelids done at the same time?
They can be done separately or in the same procedure, depending on the findings and the patient's wishes. A combined procedure saves one recovery period, and the decision is made at the consultation.
Is there a non-surgical alternative to eyelid surgery?
